Sounds like the belt needs to be re-tensioned.  I dont think the water pump
got fried in that small amount of time without coolant.....heck, your gauge
still had a temp reading,which indicates the presence of coolant in the
system. . You shopuld remove both covers to check the blet tention(possible
tight on one side,and slack on the other). I once had a a belt frey from
slapping against the timing covers
