[V8] Ign Question to the V8 Guru's out there

Subject '90 V8 PT *Chipped*. 

 

Not that the chip matters here but you might wanna know.. 

 

On the pass dist hall sender.. mine has never been connected (not since
I got the car 8 months ago.. and almost 10K Miles).. The car runs,
great, starts fine good MPG.. the Question.. is why? Is it a backup? I
can't connect it cause 2 of the 3 wires are broken (upon inspection) so
until I get the replacement part.. its gonna stay as is.. just wanted to
run it up the flagpole.
