If the ECU doesn't see a signal from the hall sensor, it retards the
timing 20 degrees and disables the knock sensors.  Your car will perform
accordingly.

On the 5 cylinder Audi's, the engine won't fire at all with a
bad/disconnected hall sensor, the ECU needs the signal to determine #1
reference alignment.
