For future reference, it was the switch. I took off the door pull and
inspected the switch. One of the wires is loose in its holder (oddly
enough, loose towards the switch, not away from the switch). I wiggled
the switch lightly into the terminals and got the window up.
I held down that button as hard as I could and did not let go until the
window was firmly in the up position.
With tools, flashlights, and door pieces laying the footwell of the
locked and secured car,
