I'll add this one - 
Get a piece of rubber belting or thick truck mudflap, cut a piece to put over the top of your jack pad.  Noone wants to do unnecessary body work.

Comment on hand cleanliness-
Just wear Nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean.  I a few hours of working you may use a few pair.  So, they are cheap.

Here's a little trick: When your hands are really grimy (working on 
someone  
else's V8 'natch), pre clean your hands with  a tablespoon of fresh,  
clean 
motor oil - it will clean your hands better than you would imagine  and 
doesn't 
take away the skin oil. I do this sometimes in the middle of a job  
when I 
want clean hands but don't really want to get into the scrubbing 
bubbles  thing...
