Exactly how bad is your mileage that you're going to such lengths?  I get
a steady 14-16 City in any of my V8Q's, less when driven as intended. 
Highway around 22 MPG IIRC.  
The MPG sucked right out of the box for such a small displacement,
original EPA mileage for the V8Q was 14 MPG city and 18 MPG Highway. 
Most SUV's do better than our steeds these days.
