Changed the timing belt this spring, only to discover during a radiator change this week that the crank and oil pump seal was leaking. Let's just say we (a friend and I) got good training in changing timing belts and crank/oil pump seals on V8 4.2.
When the job was done for the second time, using VW tools 3202 and 3203, doing everything right and blah blah blah...
...we fired her up, took her for a spin and stopped. "Is it a fire or is it a leak?" I thought to myself.
Brownish fluid on the engine, under the timing belt covers.
Should I be worried about this, or should I let it be for a couple of days? Could it be old oil, some of the grease we used to coat the seals with is melting and coming out along with a bit of left over coolant?
We really don't want to do this for the forth time!!
/Dag
