Dag, if you have an oil leak at the right front of the engine, check the
oil pressure senders which are just above the alternator. There is a big
one (expensive) and a little one (cheap). I also had oil on the
alternator and serpentine belt - and a steady drip on the ground when
the engine was running. Messy. Not nice. This is an Audi, not an old BSA
motorcycle, right?
I changed the oil cooler lines (didn't help), the large (expensive)
sender (didn't help) and finally the little sender which cost all of
$7.00 at the local auto parts store - I think it is a VW part which is
why it is so cheap - and that was it.
The sender was leaking from the plastic end where the wiring connection
comes out. Evidently I bumped it or bent it when I did the timing belt,
and that caused the leak - it was a real pain to find this!
It was easy to change. Removed the exhaust heat shield (two nuts),
pulled off the wire, R&R sender (wrench), put it back together. Worked
from the TOP of the car, didn't have to crawl under, total time about 15
minutes, problem fixed, under $10. What a deal!
