Took to the shop today to get a can or two of Freeze-12 added and check
pressures and all that. Wrench called and said that he couldn't get the
clutch to kick in. Knowing that there was a definite "clink" when I
engaged Auto, I went down to see what the problem was.
Looks like the outer part of the clutch has sheered from the inner
part. The outer part engages and spins, but what's connected to the
piston does not move. Wrench advised complete compressor replacement
due to front seal leaking, and I agreed. Compressor replacement will go
along with system flush, orifice tube replacement, and accumulator
replacement.
So.. what are my options? If I replace the compressor, can I replace it
with one of the later compressors that's designed for R134a? Where can
I get one for less than $400? I'd like to go new, but the triple-digit
weather is forcing me to keep my options open.
Thanks,
Scott S.
