I need to chime in on this one too...
Of the 17 cars I've had so far (I'm 25), mostly being Audis, I would say only about 20-30% (if that) had service records. While it's nice to see what parts have been replaced on a car, it doesn't mean much to me. Things can break at any point, even stuff that has been replaced rather recently. What does mean "everything" to me however, is thoroughly checking the car out. This way you get a VERY good idea of the shape the car is in, assuming you know cars, know how to work on them and know what you are looking at and what to look for.
The person below mentioned: "I will not buy a used car that has no service records", in my case I will not buy a car sight unseen. That is by FAR the most important factor, everything else like service records is just some extra icing on the cake. About 70% of the time I have gone to buy a used car I found it to be in the exact opposite shape of what the seller was describing it as! For instance, people that buy cars on Ebay without being able to see them before payment take HUGE risks.
Bottom line is, NEVER buy a car based on the seller's description! No matter how nice it sounds, how much you want it or how little they are asking for it. When it sounds too good to be true, 90% of the time it is. Go see it for yourself or have someone look at it for you if you can't or don't know how.
