[V8] no start

Did you see the 8 volts on the solenoid wire (small one) while cranking?
That sounds a little low. You either have a bad battery or cable I would guess.

The next description of flaky voltage at the main post also says cable/battery -
unless you are measuring at the wire that goes into the motor. In other words,
past the switch which is inside the solenoid. If you are measuring past the
solenoid, you are probably looking at a bad solenoid. Someone just posted about
having burned contacts - and this is the exact symptom.
