The car will start and run "fine" without the O2 sensor connected. The car however will not be able to determine if it is too rich/lean and make the adjustments to correct itself (that is what the O2 sensor does), So without O2 Sensor the car assumes it's to lean and will continue to richen the fuel, until it cannot anymore (full rich). This will get you. Really bad MPG, Lots of black smoke upon acceleration and possibly foul your plugs.
If it's starved for fuel, check the FPR vac line make sure you have vac there and that the hose is not cracked or blocked.
