[V8] Causes of Bad MPG?

$1500 for your 5spd V8!!!! That is unbelievable.

By the way, did you have any more thoughts on the oil burning with my
V8, or is it something that you have to look at close up?

Interestingly I read an article from a British car classic magazine over
the weekend, they were comparing Jaguar Mk 2 and Daimler 250 sedans, and
in it they indicated that oil burning on startup was usually poor valve
stem seals while oil smoke on light acceleration was due to a head
problem. Now this seems very close to what I have going on where I don't
actually get a puff of smoke on the startup, but a couple of seconds
afterward, and then more smoke as I accelerate. When the V8 is actually
running at steady speed there doesn't appear to be any smoke coming from
the tail pipe.

Do you think the author is mistaken in his analysis, or can the heads
cause that sort of problem on acceleration?

George
