[V8] Kick down Erratic

My '94 V8 rarely downshifts when floored; must switch to 'S' mode to get
decent acceleration. Don't believe it's the kick down switch because it
will downshift in 'S' mode, and the AC cuts back w/heavy throttle (assume KD
switch controls this too). From dead stop, trans usually shifts quickly
through the gears providing sluggish acceleration. However, sometimes (in
cooler weather) it stays in gears longer, accelerates nicely, and kick down
works fine. Seen this problem discussed in archives, but haven't seen a
plausible solution. Any BTDT's??

It must be a v8 thing... I had a similar nightmare, and my wife almost got
arrested for it on the side of the road. In her case, she forgot to change
her address on a previous move, which resulted in a suspended plate due to
ignoring an emissions notice.... Which then suspends the plate and license
of
the driver.... Then she got stopped for a traffic assist, and it all hit
the
fan, no proof of ins, no registration, driving on susp lis, susp plates,
state cop was ready to cuff her.
I called a lawyer right away, and got all charges dropped (ended up
spending
30 hours tracking down a suspended plate due to a sold car notice), but it
was at court. If you end up with a court date on this, get a lawyer. If
there is any grey area on the effective policy date, don't do this pro se.
The
upside is you could clear it all up, the downside could be that a lot of
bad
things follow this conviction.

Hi David, If you wouldn't mind sending a copy of that info my way I'd
appreciate it. The rear amps are one of my summer projects. William

If that is true, you also might take them out and look for a cap
(typically a cylinder, standing up) oozing a bit of goo or looking
bloated. Remove, procure similar, replace.
Yes, BOSE are car specific. The whole point of BOSE technology is to
pre-equalize for the ambient environment.

If you are having screeching, no high volume , popping ... this is a
direct result of the caps being gone/internally damage/broken etc .
Sometimes there is no visible damage to the caps. I've rebuilt five amp
boards and only seen one with physical damage .

Its the amps, I had similar noises before they failed completely on my
old 1990 Maxima. If they are like any other early BOSE system, the amp
is likely mounted on the speakers. I removed the speaker unit and had
a local stereo shop that was a BOSE authorized repair center rebuild
the amp for about $75 back in 2000. Do not buy a replacement amp off
of ebay, they are apparently equalized according to the car and
speaker position it is installed in and they won't sound right. Yes,
the point of failure is indeed the caps, BOSE got a bad batch during
the early 90s and it affected all of their OEM systems regardless of
the make or model of car. I think they eventually corrected the
problem by 93-94 or so.

And another question that I have. How many of the subsystems of the 200 and
the V8 similar or the same? Are the air conditioning systems the same? The
same compressor, the same receiver drier, the same fan motor for the HVAC
system?
The reason I am asking is that since The Black Mariah doesn't want to leave,
maybe, just maybe she should stay around and become a parts car for my new,
yet to arrive, yet to be located V8. The a/c system in The Black Mariah is
new...last summer. The exhaust system is NEW, Stebro, this winter.
Maybe I should part her out afterall. Just keep the pieces that I think I
will need on a shelf, and have the remainder hauled away.
No. I don't really have the time to pull pieces off, but maybe I should MAKE
the time. I am not sure how I will deal with the engine and transmission,
though.....unless someone will buy the carcass with engine and transmission
and haul it off?
I hate to give it to someone like Shokan for $300, since I KNOW that there
are $2500 in new parts hanging on her right now.
But she is gonna have to go somewhere, sometime before next year at this
time because we will be moving....
Roger

Listers with factory repair manuals or engine harnesses out of there car, I
NEED YOR HELP! Couple of months ago I replaced my o2 sesor, and never wire
tied the excess wire up. Well, it came back and bit me in tha a** hard
today. Not only did it get wrapped around my front drive shaft, it ripped
the connector plug off the harness (engine side of harness :( I already
removed every thing, and am ready to solder the wires to the new plug.
Problem is, I dont know wich wire goes to which side of the plug. Im
speaking of the bown wire, and the red w/green stripe. This is for the
heated eliment I presume. The plug side is marked 1 and 2. Does anyone know
wich goes where? Thanks guys Allan
FWI you need to pull the rubber boot back off the harness plug to see the 1
and 2 marks on the plug housing.
