[V8] The $6000 sunroof rock on a Mercedes and other thoughts

Well, well, Roger!
First off, I believe it was Cobram who first posted about the $6500
(Canadian- now almost as valuable as the insipidly low-valued US
Dollar -- but I won't go into that now). Entertaining: Yes. However,
if he thinks that the techs get $110/hr he needs to rethink that
logic. In truth, while the shop may charge that much, the service
techs typically get paid anywhere from $20-60/hr based on their
experience and expertise. Also, usually the quote is based on
worse-case scenario. When I worked at the dealership, we would
routinely estimate what a repair would be. I think we would have
charged one hour diagnostic time to check the problem. Of course, no
Audi or Porsche ever had a sunroof repair that would run that much
$$$. Lol.
Anyhow, the last part of your e-mail is absolutely correct. If I
wasn't mechanically-inclined or halfway-decent with my electrical
skills, I'd likely not own all of my cars. But I drive too much to
lease, so I have to. Lol.
