Re: Question for you who have or have had both a V8 quattro and a 89-90
200TQ.
Thanks a bunch to all you guys and your answers and comments about my
question, whether to put my V8 quattro on the road, or drop the engine into
my 89 200TQ
Reading Tony and Kneale's comments about the V8 having additional stiffening
throughout, a factory strut brace, more sound deadening, and a wider
track............I can see where the V8 would be a nicer driving and
handling car. Also a great cruiser for our local wide open and long
straights on Interstate 10, with little traffic
Ron, I did see the article on the V8 into a 200 conversion at
germanautoconnection..thanks

I am not a lawyer, but to what would they compare the new signature?
(That is, if someone named Thomas Jefferson signed it as George Washington,
who'd know it wasn't signed by George himself?) Just asking. ;)

Kent, I owe you a better explanation regarding the title. The lady from
Minnesota who had owned the Audi, moved to Scottsdale, AZ, and soon after,
for a reason I don't know, sold the V8 to a guy in the Scottsdale area. She
signed the title over to him...the steering rack started leaking before he
got around to changing the title to his name. That is where I came in. He
had the V8 listed in craigslist. He promised me he had a clear title and I
ended up making a deal with him for $200. I drove to Scottsdale (I am 50
miles east of Tucson, AZ ).... loaded the Audi, took it to motor vehicles
for an inspection and title change. The lady had signed the front of the
Minnesota title, printed her name on the back but did not sign the back. At
Arizona motor vehicles they said it had to be signed on the back as well as
the front.
The next day I contacted Minnesota motor vehicles and they advised me the
signing on the back was for dealers ONLY...private parties print their name
but don't sign. So the lady had done it properly, according to Minnesota
rules. That was not good enough for Arizona. I talked with them later and
explained all of this but it was like talking to a brick wall...they would
not budge and go along with Minnesota title laws.
So I am still trying to track down the lady...if I can find her, I can then
have her apply for a duplicate title (since as far as ANY motor vehicle dept
is concerned it is still in her name) and then have her sign the duplicate
title to suit Arizona MVD
At the moment I am leaning towards dropping the V8 into the lighter 200 and
having a hotrod! If I kept the V8 intact and put it on the road.....I KNOW
my wife would fall in love with the V8 and how it drives........BUT she
would want to stay with the automatic. I am NOT an automatic guy.
The decision partly depends on my luck getting a valid title for the
V8.........and then LOTS of thinking!
thanks again guys....your help and expertise is really appreciated
