Roger,
What are you thinking, man? If you are seriously contemplating a
Mini, stop and give some thought to getting a VW R32. At least
you'll be getting something with a claim to Audi-ness ("Audi-
ness...???). The R32 has the TT 3.2 Quattro running gear with a
practical VW Golf hatchback body and an interior that is a sports-car
nuts dream. Mini is... ummm, well, I don't want to insult anyone's
personal choice, but you simply have to look at and drive an R32
before committing to a Mini.
I bought mine after selling the Gentleman's Express to our brother
Paul. Believe it or not, it out performs the Gentleman's Express in
every performance measure (and has 13.1" front discs from the
factory! I can't find my spreadsheet with the specs for the GE, but
the larger-than-stock aftermarket front discs were a lot smaller than
that.) It's an amazing car, very much in the spirit of the UrQ,
other than lacking a turbo; but the main point is that it's
everything that a Mini offers and a HELLuva lot more! They retain
their value better than nearly any car on the market, but that's not
an aberration, that's the market speaking. What is says, is "Value!"
Just to clarify, I'm speaking of the 2004 model (the only year they
were imported to the states) and not the 2007/8 model, which to the
best of my knowledge, has not yet arrived here yet.
Food for thought, brother, food for thought...
