[V8] Speak Up, Mr. Bose

Its not the speaker itself.  Its either a  truly odd connection, or 
something in the amp. I'm not sure if the amp may be co-located with 
the speaker, however.  Sounds almost like the type of thing a capacitor 
coudl cause - btu you'd need to get into the amp to find out, if you 
could find out at all.
