IMO the bose system SUCKS. AND SUCKS SOME MORE.

I replaced my just over a year ago and spent considerable time doing it. I
am running Boston Acoustic Rally seperates (RC620 in the rear, RC420 in the
front) in the front and rear of the car. I am using an average JVC head
unit. I run two amps. The Bostons are run off an A/D/S PowerPlate 6.25 (6
Channel 50 amps each). The subs which are 17 year old POS Rockford Fosgate
12 inch subs (two of them) are bridged to a JL Audio amp. 300 watt I think.
this may not sound like much power (realistically, the JL is not putting out
300, but the ADS IS capable of an honest 250), but i can tell u the sound is
COMPLETELY AMAZING at any volume. ANY! It will shake set off car alarms in
parking garages a story up and a story below. And best of all, it will be
clean when when doing it. I am in my 30's so, unlike most of 20 year old
kids who want boom, my goal is quality. I think i got it with the system I
built. I did it on an amazingly small budget too. I got EVERYTHING (but
the deck) on ebay or from local stores going out of business. Including TOP
quality connectors and cables (a must IMO), i spent about $650 on the
system. I paid full price for the deck of about $300. I have listened to
several systems where the owners spent between $3000-$4000. i would not say
mine budget system is worlds better (it is better for my listening tastes),
but I would say it most certainly competes, and does so with cleaner sound.
TWO things i did that i think set it apart. I took the WHOLE interior out
of the car. Everything. Dash, seats, door panels. EVERYTHING. I ran all
the wiring in the factory wiring looms (which was REALLY hard). And, i made
the system totally transparent. IOW, other then the four exposed tweeters
and non-bozo head unit, you can't tell what is in there. I modified the
front bozo housings to fit the Boston speakers. And, i leak tested both
housings before i put it back into the door. In all, the whole job took me
about 80 hours. Just the front door mods took about 20 hrs. The rear
speakers were easier. A lot. part of my concern was making sure i could
remove the subs in under a minute. ERGO, i did not build a custom box. it
just a cheap $50 bandpass i picked up at some rinky dink store in WA state
about 15 years ago. what was a little harder was mounting the amps under
the parcel shelf with all the uneven grooves. I had to build spacers, which
was not that hard. what was hard was holding the amps with very little
clearance. My arms go so sore. that A/D/S amp is a MONSTER. it weighs i
would guess about 15 pounds (which gets heavy when u measure, remeasure,
drill, drill a bit more, measure, hold, position, etc., etc., etc.). In
all, spending the time i did to install it all may not be up everyone's
alley. but it is so worth it. it sounds just amazing. audio is a favorite
past time of mine. imo, if u do want quality components, go for the Alpine
Deck, Zapco amp, A/D/S amp (not sure if they still make amps, but bet u can
get NOS on ebay), MB Quart or Boston Pro Speakers, etc. You can spend WAY
BIG $$ if you chose Focal, Nakamichi or other high end marks. Or, you can
save a few $$ by going with names like JVC (just know which deck to buy) and
so on. sorry, got kinda distracted on this post. hope it helps some. BTW,
i would NEVER go back to my Bozo stuff again. :)
