Yes I put back the original speaker after fixing the CAPs in the amp . 

To complete the CAPs repair it a small cost (20-30usd for all 4 ) but
you need to be partly proficient with a soldering Iron . There is a
wonderful write up on this , What is good about the write up it is very
technical but also done in layman terms .

Did you put back in the same speaker?  I'm planning on changing the
speaker and using my own amp.  Bose is a nice brand name, yes, but a
single paper cone speaker just isn't that great for sound quality.  I'm
still debating on what brand to go with (Blaupunkt?  Infinity?  Alpine?)
but I plan on doing something like this:

OE setup:
[head unit]==[vehicle harness]====[onboard amp][speaker]

My setup:
[head unit]==[vehicle harness]====[aftermarket amp]=[speaker]

I debated redoing the Bose amps but unless someone can convince me that
they're superior, it seems like I should just replace the whole system
while it's out.  The lower speaker housing has all those vent holes,
perfect for running in two new speaker wires to bypass that amp.  This
is a viable and clean option for the rear, but the front has me really
concerned.  No real place to mount an amp up there and I dread running
wires into the doors...
