Ken,
After 10+ years of owning and driving a 90 V8q daily I made the plunge and purchased an S8 last November. I LOVE the S8. It really is everything I loved about my V8 PLUS it really is everything I hoped my V8 could be. The drivability is outstanding, handling is exceptional, power and umph galore, braking is amazing - did I mention I love this car! The 360hp provides excellent power and torque is available virtually anytime. The Brakes are HUGE and provide incredible braking power - as a side benefit, the fronts are brembo 4 piston calipers so replacing pads is absolutley the easiest pad change I've ever completed...which is good because I'll likely go through more brake pads on this car. :) Did I mention how fun it is to drive?
The tiptronic is actually a blast to use and gives you incredible control of the shifting...I think it is as close as you can get to the control of a stick, but still offering the convenience of an automatic. There are some twisties on my way home every day that just beg for the tiptronic - which I gladly oblige!
With all that said, the car is also very civil when you want it to be...although accelerating from a stop with anything less than a leap forward is tough! :)
Mine is an 01 that came to me with 50k miles on her.
By the way, I kept my V8, but will likely put her up for sale in the near future because it isn't getting any driving time - I simply can't drive it when the S8 is sitting right next to it.
Ken, BUY the S8 - you won't regret it!
Justin
