[V8] Here is a stupid question....

Roger,
IME, the 20V alternator placement, especially with the "please drown me hose" directly placed from the lower front of the car emptying in back of the alternator, is awful to say the least. I can count on my alternator dropping to zero charge when going out in the driving rain and discharging zero when taking very moderate puddles on that side of the car. (usually comes back in 10 -30 seconds depending on engine speed) Hence my proclivity for Autozone for ever replaceable alternators. 2 down in 3 years. That said it has never dired at the first ingestion of water so I think there is hope for your's once its dried out. You really should just buy my V8 as its belly pan prevents such problems!

V8] Here is a stupid question rmwoodbury at adelphia.net Sat Mar 17 14:08:32 EDT 2007
Is there supposed to be a belly pan underneath the engine on the 200
20valve?
The reason I need to know this now, is that I think I just toasted my
alternator. Now the alternator is new, and we are having a wicked late
season Nor'easter, which has turned into a pounding rain. With the snow that
we got last night there are huge puddles everywhere, and I hit was at low
warp, heard a squreeeach briefly, and when I got to the office fifteen miles
later, I lost all electrics and finally the car died. I left it there and
came home in the big Chebbie 1-ton.

Damn! I hate it when this happens. The alternator is new...maybe 1 1/2
years old and not more.

...and I am sure someone knows the answer. The reason it is so stupid, is
that I should know the answer myself, but try as I might, I just can't
remember. It is about a 200 20Valve, which is not what this list is about,
but I know that there is information here because there are Sicko's on this
list like me, with V8 AND 20Valve experience. Here it is:

Is there supposed to be a belly pan underneath the engine on the 200
20valve?

I have had four type 44 Avants at this point, and I cannot remember for the
life of me if any of them had a belly pan. I wasn't paying attention to the
first one, which was a front wheel drive 5000S that my wife (of the moment)
and I bought new in 1985. I simply don't remember about the first, second
or this Quattro.

alternator. Now the alternator is new, and we are having a wicked late
season Nor'easter, which has turned into a pounding rain. With the snow that
