As long as we v8's are around and ron keeps buying them... I don’t think support will drop off.

I doubt it. While these cars have a certain "cult following" now, I doubt
that it will continue and that the cars will develop any real following that
will force a rise in prices. There are several reasons that I think this.
First of all, although the cars were produced in relatively few numbers,
eventually the cars will no longer be supported by a reliable parts network.
Since the cars "enjoy" a certain reputation for being problematic in many
different ways, I think the allure of owning one and maintaining it will
fade once the availability of replacement parts becomes an issue. Eventually
air conditioning system, body and some parts of the engine area will become
unobtainable, and that will spell the end.
I think of the V8 in the same vein as I think of the Porsche 928. There are
relatively few 928 enthusiasts in Porschedom. In point of fact, most
Porsche "people" don't even know WHAT a 928 is, let alone recognize it for
the truly unique example of Porsche engineering that it is. Now, the 928 is
really getting long in the tooth. Although a low mileage example of the
S4/GTS cars will bring some fairly decent money, I think the hay day of this
model is passing rapidly. In truth, the S4/GTS cars are expensive and
complicated to maintain, and will never have the cachet that the 911 has
The V8 Quattro is in the same league. Expensive to have maintained on its
worst day, and now starting to become more and more difficult to maintain
and source parts for, especially the later ones....the '92-94's.
I doubt that the V8 will ever reach the desirability of the 200 20Valve,
especially the Avant. And there are too many Type 44 20Valve cars around to
be worried very much about availability, although one of the turbo hoses on
the 20Valve is no longer available at all.
Sounds to me like a perfect opportunity. What other kind of car can you buy
for a few thousand dollars, rejuvenate for a few more, and then drive such a
terrific performer and be CERTAIN that you will not see another like it at
the next stoplight?
I'll take one of each, please.
Roger
