[V8] ROG... Now A8

Greetings all,

Before purchasing my S8 I did quite a bit of reading on the A8 and asked a
bunch of questions to the owners of A8's.  The general consensus is that the
earlier A8's (97-99) are the most prone to transmission failures - the "face
lift" versions (their words, not mine), which is anything 2000+, haven't
shown the same penitent for failure in the transmissions.

If you're remotely thinking about an A8, the best source for information is
likely found on www.audipages.com, which is a website filled with technical
information, how to's, inspection guides, upgrades, etc. specific to the A8
and S8.

I recall hearing it's wise to stick with '98 and newer A8 cars -- for
whatever reason.

They're kind of a overlapping stepping stone....

No question it's probably a _great_ value, but it's a bunch softer and more
average in terms of driver enthusiasm, and newer, lower mileage examples
without early-model-year transmission issues are fairly readiy available.  

Still, I could almost see picking one up to replace the Cayenne V8 for the
GF, even if just to have a bit more variety in the stable if nothing else.
