Brian,
Cat's implode for allot of different reasons, but the biggest on is
running to rich (the additional heat). The rotten egg smell is a
giveaway..Usually telling you "it too late for me.. But I'm screaming to
be fixed"
"We" have already established that the V8's like to eat O2 Sensors, and
unless you pay attention to your MPG or have you MIL light hooked up,
chances are you'd not notice that much.
You have already determined that you need a middle and rear muffler, why
is it had to believe that you wouldn't be need to replace the cats too,
especially after what you've already said?
If your still driving the car, your only making it worse on the engine
if the cat is clogged (cause thank gawd for the X pipe..cause your
pushing all the exhaust thru one side). Pull the cats if they rattle,
then you know... take a long metal rod and finish the job on the clogged
one, so that you can at least put it back on the car. Then go get the
exhaust done. OE Stuff is crazy expensive, depending on location you
might find a used one (shipping's a killer as it's very heavy ~100
pounds range), Custom is cheap and easy, but might not give you the
right sound.
HTH..
Scott
