[V8] rad temp switch

Trying to track down warm running, aside from poor radiator.  I jumpered the connector to the lower rad temp switch and could not get the aux fan to kick in.  I assume this should do the trick?  Fan works when A/C is on and heavy duty fan fuse is good.
My Bentley electrical has gone missing so ideas appreciated.
