The styling thread comes up often around here and other forums. As proof
of the elegance and style of our beloved Teutonic steeds, I submit that
no one EVER argues the clean, classic understated and timeless lines of
the V8Q, subtle fender flares and all.
Everyone's entitled to an opinion, they're like....ears, yeah, ears, just
about everyone has at least one. ;-) Putting forth your preferences and
not getting bombarded with inane personal attackzzz etc. is something
that all listers should be proud of. Trolls and certain other '94 owners
;-) find that out quickly and disappear unceremoniously as they appeared.
As I have said on this and other forums, I detest the looks of the
fugliest thing to come out of Inglostadt, ever, the "horse collar"
grill." It does however seem to be evolving well since its initial
manifestation. Now, Veedub, Audi, Hyundai et. al. has been tweaking it
to the point that it actually doesn't look THAT bad anymore. Or we could
just be getting used to it.
When the horse collar grill came out, I had a conversation with an Audi
higher up (well, at the time) in Latin America. He'd just returned from
the dog and pony show Audi puts on for it's distributors in Germany.
Audi had commented that the horse collar grill was influenced by Chinese
preferences and sensibilities. According to him the running joke at the
get together was that so many Chinese were being thrust from a Stone Age
agrarian existence into the modern age, that they would feel better with
something familiar in front, a horse (buffalo, wife, daughter etc.) plow
collar leading the way.
Everything improves with age...especially memories of past cars. Of all
the utilitarian cars I've owned (including Vdubs) sans power steering, or
any other bells and whistles, the only one I really miss and wish I still
had is my ole 1974 Mazda RX2. Check the gas and add oil every 100 miles.
Like a 12 cylinder boxer, or a 3 cylinder 2 stroke, everyone should
drive a rotary at least once in their lifetime.
