[V8] clunky, banging

I'm getting a clunk or a bang sometimes when the car shifts into second also sometimes just before the car comes to a complete stop. The behavior is erratic, cold or hot, it doesn't matter. I'm still getting the shutting off when it's cold at the first stop sign in D. My fluid level is fine. I understand there's a sensor or switch inside the tranny that goes bad, could this be the culprit?
