Right now, I can share that the two front runners at Steamboat
Ice Track are the Blizzack flavors and the Haka Rsi.? Everything
else won't do as well there.? The Ice-x is a good tire, but it's
just a better Haka WR snow tire.? Some of the preference goes to
what your definition of winter driving is, but if you see a combination
that includes ice, water, road snow, slush etc, Blizzacks and Rsi's are
at the front of the pack by a large margin.? If you are looking to
compromise on ice handling, then all the other winter tires become darn
good.? One of the best bang for buck is the Dunlop Graspic IMO,
but a bit goosy on dry as well.? One of my personal favorites I
still run on our V8 (that predicated the WR design), is the old non ice
Pirelli Winter P210.? Can't kill those suckers, and they have a
really stiff sidewall for the v8.
That said, the quattros up at Steamboat have pretty much given the
hands down to Blizzack year after year (even the old design WS50), but
finally Hakka came out with an equivelent in the Rsi.? So similar
was the Rsi, I couldn't tell they weren't blizzacks.? Yes they are
flexy on dry pavement, because the tread is made of gummy bears.?
Avoid one rear-ender this winter, they proved their worth....
