Here is a little test .....
turn you ign key on ... turn everything off so the interior is quiet .
Now turn the heated seat on .... did you hear a little click ?( from the
HS relay ) If you did then you know the problem lies in the heated seat
element . The HS have two heating pads one for you A$$ and one for your
back . 99% of the time a wire has shorted on the A$$ pad . The D Seat on
my 87 is cloth ... there is a wire @ the bottom of the seat fabric (
kind of like a draw sting ) . Loosen this and peal the fabric back .
This will expose a white fabric like blanket ...look for a brown spot
this is where the short is . Gently cut the fabric to expose the tiny
black wire . All you need to do is solder this a put a small piece of
elect. tape ... check now to see if HS works before reassemble. Note :
you do not have to take seats out of car to do all this but it does make
it somewhat easier ... if anyone runs into problems I have my own write
up from a few years ago . / superdave

Subject: [V8] Seat Heaters
Kansas' Indian summer is over. We had 60's to 80's the past few weeks,
but today is the first day of reality.
At least three of the four seat heaters in my car are kaput due to open
circuits in the butt-warmer. I know there is a procedure for bypassing
the back portion, but can one bypass the butt and retain the back heat?
The wiring diagrams show power coming in from control unit (relay?
switch?) going to the connector under the seat, through the butt heater,
to the connector under the seat, to the back portion, to ground.
Could one use a jumper wire and connect the Black/Yellow power wire
going to the butt portion to the Brown/Blue wire going to the back
portion?
For reference, I'm looking at page 69 of the wiring diagrams, tracks 642
- 644.
