[V8] Dizzy Seals

There's a set pin on the flange, that aligns it to the head. The
distributor shaft is keyed to the camshaft. BUT, the distributor
housing (what the cap bolts to) can rotate to be adjusted. There are
moon shaped cuts to allow it to rotate on its bolts. BUT, I didn't play
with a lot, so it may very well be aligned to the flange in a manner I
did not see. I do remember that the alignment pin on the flange stuck
down into the head, AND upwards.. so maybe that keys the outer portion
of the dizzy. I'll check next week when I do the other side (if World
Impex ever gets me the parts on time, in the correct quantity.....)

My engine had stopped a few degrees BDC, so I just left it. I just made
a mental note that the rotor was pointing towards the wheel well. Thus,
during installation, it fit into the cam pointing at the wheel well.

The pics is a cap that is about 2 months old and has some scoring on the
contacts. dizzy2.jpg shows it the best. I'll take better pics when I
take the other side off.

I smirk at the idea of the dizzy's being replaced in 1997. How much did
THAT cost the owner??? Probably as much it costs to replace a coil pack
on a 2000 A8. Check please.

As an aside, if any of you have any extra nose cones that screw onto RTV
tubes, I'd like them. I use them for a lot of different chemicals that
are packaged in the same tube but generally don't come with the cones
(dielectric grease, e.g.) and rather than stealing them out of packages,
I'll take any old, clean ones you guys have.
