[V8] Here's an odd, off the wall question....

In reading the last post one comment struck me sharply...well, it IS early
here, afterall. The comment was that the reason the ignition components for
the V8 are so expensive is that they fit only that car.

I was wondering if that is entirely accurate. My musings took me back to
the time that I spent several hours with the Wrench fantasizing shoehorning
a Porsche 928 V8 into an Audi 200 Avant Quattro.

So, since it is so early in the morning, I was pondering whether anyone had
even considered shoehorning a 928 V8 into an Audi V8? How about an early
engine...before they became the S or S4 versions?

There were quite a few more of them produced than the Audi V8, but I was
mostly wondering if the back of the engine cases might by some weird
coincidence be the same...or similar enough to work...

Probably not. But I was also wondering if ANY of the miscellaneous
components might actually be the same, if numbered differently, and if put
into the little plastic baggie with the right symbol on the outside.

Probably not. But still, the engines are remarkably similar in outward
appearance...although even the earliest 928 engine is probably a LOT
wider....

Oh, maybe I should go back to bed.
