[V8] On moving the Audifans website

Not good news. I read the posts about the upcoming move of the Audifans
website, and read the terrible comments that Dan made about just "pulling
the plug". I realized for the first time, that it was indeed possible for
this forum to cease to exist. Inevitably, that will happen, but I like a
lot of you, am not ready for it.

It is all wrapped up in the death of The Black Mariah. Since pulling her
out of service, I have been trying to sell her, locally as well as long
distance. No real luck, which is going to bring me soon to the decision to
merely send her off to Valhalla in whatever way is most expedient. She
can't stay where she is all winter to meet the same fate next spring. So
one way or another, she is leaving here, perhaps like a Valkyrie Queen, on a
raft of logs blazing into the sunset, while a chorus of Audi fans sing a
great Wagnerian kyrie....ah! What an image! (See what happens when I get a
good night's sleep?).

Anyway, perhaps there is some symbiosis here. I think what I am going to do
is to relist the Black Mariah on the Audifans website, and if I can sell it,
I will donate ten percent or something to the upcoming move of the website
and the better needs of its continuation. I listed the car for sale on eBay
a month and a half ago or so, and the result was a resounding lesser amount
than I though the car was really worth. Not surprising: I only did it to
see what the market would bear.

The car was still being driven daily, and on that last day that I drove her
home, the heater control valve disintegrated in the Shaw's Grocery Store
parking lot in Ellsworth. I have started to pull the valve off, but haven't
the time to do much with it. I am going to relist the car now here, and
perhaps on eBay once more, and then if no result, will be moving the car to
a charity for the donation value alone. Perhaps someone will decide to pick
it up...perhaps not, but I am lightening ship at this point and it is time
for The Black Mariah to meet her maker, one way or another.

So, what's she worth? Well, I have put a bunch of money into her in the
last twelve to eighteen months. Realistically, the carcass should be worth
$2500 to the knowledgeable, but perhaps less....and ten percent to Audifans
or perhaps more.

Yeah. You are gonna have to figure out how to come and get her. Any ideas?

Roger

P.S. This might be the end of my Type 44 days. I drove The Old Gray Mare
to Bangor yesterday to shop. Runs really well...the old problem of heating
in appropriately seems to have stopped entirely, and now the HVAC is working
normally. I have fond thoughts of another V8 and know of one that might
work, but little bitty plastic parts that totally disable the car...like the
Mariah's heater control valve...make me wonder whether or not I really want
to deal with another old car regardless what it is. About the only old car
that I think makes any real sense at this time, is a 1983 Mercedes 240D, and
that only for three seasons at the outside up here. It is a shame: after
the Type 44 Audi didn't do anything as well, in my opinion.
