I used to call it the giggle-monster when the PO had it! Really close to
the LT1Q in entertainment value... The bill for that engine work was about
double what ingo paid for the car 6 months later. It does have a pretty high
fun factor, especially above 4500.

>I assume the papyrus car you talk about is an auto. I know for a fact in
snow my 3.6 Auto will >outdo my 4000Q, the 5000TQ I had, and plenty of other
cars. I've never driven a 5-speed (torsen >center) in the snow, but have heard
several owners on the list have not so positive coments.

yep, all papyrus' cars in the US were autos, since they all were 1990 cars.
The v8 drives better with the dual torsens in the 5spd than the 200 with
open rear. It can still be, er... exciting?

>I did forget to comment on the 5-speed in one respect. On the gas in a
tight turn on dry >pavement, it feels similar to an old school 4X4. What I would
call "binding" I guess. Not so with >the auto.

That's the torsen allowing driveshaft speed differential at maximum torque
bias ratio, albeit not being exactly kind about accomodating that strain. All
torsen cars do it, but the longer wheelbase cars are more obvious. The
autobox uses a magnetic lockup based on the ABS sensors, and full lock doesn't
lock the center.

>I'd definately agree on the urgent reving of the 3.6 -vs- the 4.2. If the
cams and head porting make >that much difference on the 4.2, well, Dave C, are
you listening??

I had a set built for Mark W's 4.2 5spd with the 4.2 version of those cams.
The lift on the 4.2 intake is like +2mm more vs +1mm on the 3.6 HP cams.
Both Mark and Keith assure me that the result is... Satisfying

>My main complaint of the auto is 0-20, where I do a lot of my driving. Not
that a 5-speed is much >better when driven "normally". But, abuse the clutch
a bit, and it really comes to life! Heck, to 40 >I can beat the auto 3.6 with
the 4000Q in stock form. I dump the 4000 clutch at 4000RPM, but,
>well.........

The timing advance in the 3.6 HP chip really helps there Tony, as does
paying really close attention to wheel tire weight and size. I put a set of fuchs
with 215/60's and I swear wheelspin was really close in the dry, and easy in
the wet.
