[V8] Oil leak 92 V8 4.2

The "D" plug at the front of the right head (or rear of the left
head) is a major cause of this leak - at least for me.
I would try a new set of valve cover gaskets before I went too crazy
with head re-torquing.

There is also the "O" ring between the head and the timing gear rear
cover half. This is the part the cam seal is pressed into. It could
also leak I suppose, but my money is on the "D" plug and or a bad
valve cover gasket.

Also - use a torque wrench on the valve cover bolts. Sounds like
overkill I know - but a nice even torque across the cover gives you
the best chance of a leak free seal without damaging the cover or
gasket.
Same goes for oil pans and really any cover with a gasket behind it.
I find the extra time it takes to do this is well worth the effort in
time spent NOT cleaning up the garage floor.

I believe the torque is 7 lbs/ft. It is in the manual.

And for your Ford modular V8 (newer 4.6L and 5.2L motors) question of
the week:
What is the correct spark plug torque:

18 lbs/ft (like any other car on the planet)
or
18 in/ft ?

Thats right kids - the spark plugs take less than 2 foot pounds of
torque, and if you over do it you will strip out the head.

And - next time you feel like whining about how hard or expensive
something on your V8 is - changing plugs on a 1998 with a 4.6L (the
easy one) takes no less than 3 hours and costs no less than $300 at
the dealer. The 5.2L motor is significantly more in both time and cost.
