For those who have been hearing of this "Carlisle" event, and don't know
exacltly what it is, here's my brief description. BTW, I live in Oklahoma
City (that will come into play later)

It's officially the "Carlisle Import-Kit/Replicar Nationals NON-JUDGED Show
Field" and it's a blast. I ended up going last year out of "accidental
alignment of the stars" :) Basically, my daily driver 4000 Quattro got
totalled twice in three weeks (by great okie drivers!). So, I needed a "new"
one. I was looking for a specific color (and cheap), and one appeared in
North Carolina. I figured while I was there I would visit Bruce and see the
Audi Connection collection/shop. I had talked to both him and Keith on
several occasions, but of course never met them. Anyhow, I also wanted to
meet Ron W, and we had talked about it a bit. Well, I ended up setting a
date to fly out and pick up the car. It just happened that the weekend after
(when I wanted to meet Ron and company) was the weekend of Carlisle. I had
never heard of it before, but after hearing a bunch of people were going, I
decided to join. And, at $15, I couldn't loose.

It had been years since I had so much fun! And I didn't even drink the
entire weekend. Car guys everywhere, Audi's by the dozens (probably 100 or
so in all) from all generations (including DKW). All the way up to an S8.
The 70's, 80', and early 90's are the ones I have most interest in. Anyhow,
Fiero's with Northstars, Volvo's with 5.0 Ford V8's, cars from Saab, Opel,
Lotus, Mazda, Mini's, BMW, Renault, Citroen, Datsun, Toyota, Noble. I can't
even remember all the cars. I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch.

There is also an autocross Sunday, and drag racing Friday night. I won't be
going to the Drags, but will be autoXing.

More importantly than that, for me, was the group of people there. I met
some great listers, many of whom will be back. I had such a great time, and
honestly spent more time visiting than looking at cars. Some of us (proably
at least 30) were up till 2 each morning, it seems. Unfortunately, I had to
leave Sunday morning last year. I'll be there the whole time this year. I'm
bringing my 85 4000Q (hey, it has V8 taillights) and look forward to seeing
as many people as can make it!

Here is the post on how to register:

Scroll down under the first (big) pic on that post, and there is a link to
the "how to" of registering. BTW, it went up to a whole $20 this year. If
you plan on camping, it's another $15. A bunch of us did last year, I'll me
doing it again this year. BTW, there are showers and whatnot there. Also, a
place to wash your car.

After registering, you will then contact Morgan. Her email is
morganevans at excite.com

Hope to some old faces, and meet a bunch of new faces,
Tony Hoffman
