[V8] Hood Half Open

This morning I pulled the hood release and only opened the passenger side before the cable detent came off. 

I know this has been covered many times before.  

Can someone give me the best plan to get the driver's side open?
Is the only way to jack up the car and remove the belly pan? 

All suggestions welcome,
