[V8] How many is too many

Actually special order colors are nothing new to European car makers. In my
infancy I became kind of friends with a salesman who worked at Foreign
Motors in Boston. In those days Foreign Motors was really old school, with
a big show room and storage building on several floors on Commonwealth
Avenue. Service was around the back and underneath, and going in there was
like going back in time...modern lifts but the décor was definitely 1925
era.

Anyway, the salesman was a cool dude. An engineer by training who had been
lured to this country by a company that promptly went belly up. He took a
job at Foreign Motors because they sold Rolls Royce, Mercedes, BMW and
Jaguar, and they felt that his accent was just what they needed.

Anyway, he showed me all the order forms for special color orders for Rolls,
Mercedes and Jaguar. Only BMW didn't do that at that time, but then, they
were just introducing the 1600, which began the Great BMW Revolution. In
those days special order colors for a Mercedes could cost as much as $1500 I
seem to recall....1967!

Congrats, Ed! Wow, you really did have a maaavelous weekend with
Urq25 and your new acquisition. Congrats on the new job, too. I
always wanted a V8 that color. Didn't realize that one could order
special colors in the US. Guess they took the idea from porsche.
