[V8] Mobil ATF in power steering?

Could be, but there is much more to the Zentral-Hydraulische Systeme than
just the rack.  The accumulator, pump caps, booster etc. should also be
considered before putting ATF in there.  
If something in the system fails under warranty (I had 3 bad racks in a
row once), and you have ANYTHING red in there, clean it out well before
sending it back for replacement.  A local shop replaced the bomb in a 200
turbo, when their monthly invoice came in from the wholesaler there was a
charge for the new hydrospeicher, nope, not a mistake, Meyle had refused
the warranty because of the red fluid.  
 
On the synthetic ATF, last time I bought some it was around $5 a quart,
and DTE13M was about $35 for 5 Gallons.  It is good to know that
synthetic ATF will work if you ever need it in a pinch.
