 I think you need to give at least one of each companies shuttered or dying factories over to Tesla for complete production in quantity, and move as many workers over as it requires to make their cars.? Then you can claim all of them under the CAFE for any car company that has handed over their factory.? The Big Three can meet CAFE standards, Tesla can succeed and if they share the technology so can the Big Three.



 

Reduce excise taxes on diesel fuel, create a Manhatten Project for public rail development, give huge incentives or grants to urban areas that convert public transportation to EV, CNG or other cleaner technology...



Oh wait, that was a dream wasn't it.? A Car Czar... $100 says it ends up being someone so inside the industry that it's a pointless exercise.

    I hear that Congress is looking for a Car Czar.    What do you think my chances are for landing this job?    First - merge all three companies under the newly formed company "Five Rings"   brand.  a follow on to Auto Union except the dropping anything "Union" ! The   company will be under the VAG.  Second - build every car that is built in other countries in the US for sale,   giving diesels No. 1 priority.  Third - sell the cars for a thin $1500 profit per car over cost.
