[V8] no start

Failing ground cable to the starter will cause a hot-start issue. Reason being, when wire is cold the molecules are smaller so the wire shrinks, actually making the distance between the molecules shorter, thus conducting electricity mainly the ability to carry said amperage easier. A corroded wire that "just" has enough to carry the amperage for the starter will act this way, when it is hot/warm it looses it's conductivity, thus no start when warm. The short runs that were made earlier in the day probably did not tranfer the heat to the wire so no problem.
Check for broken spots or swelled spots in the wire from the starter to ground/battery.
Also check for any loose connections, and wire retention clamps.

  Ron,

Do you mean it is cranking when you hit the key, or there is nothing at all
but a light in the dash when you hit the key? If I recall you had a problem
with a connector at the fusebox related to this before. If so, (my mind
might be playing tricks) you might check there. This does sound like a
wiring to the starter issue, though.
