[V8] Sunroof troubleshooting

I'm starting to investigate why the sunroof on V8#2 makes funny plastic gear snapping noises when the tilt-up position is chosen and doesn't want to open in the slide-back mode.
   
  The motor runs, so I'm assuming it's out of adjustment.  First step in checking the motor in place (after exposing it) is "detach sunroof lid headliner and slide back into roof."
   
  I don't find that process described in the section on sunroofs.  I see where there are headliner retaining clips, but not means of removing them.
   
  Any guidance?
