[V8] What's the value of a catalytic converter?

... as you are probably aware the 200q20V has two cats ... so you'll need to
double the unit cost.

I purchased a set of replacement converters for the 5-speed V8 from Discount
Converter ... the pix on the website looked exactly like the factory parts,
but when I got them I found that the pipes were a slightly smaller diameter
than the originals. ISTR paying about $200 each. They bolted right in
though ... without the temp sensor of course (that's how I know that all you
need to do is to pull the module in the relay box to disable the "CAT"
warning). They seem to work just fine ... the car passes smog with flying
colors, and I don't notice any performance penalty.

I have been looking at schmoozing, and oogling a couple of cars recently.
As it happens, one of them is a pretty clean looking 200 20-valve.

BUT I have think I have discovered why the car is for sale, and it probably
is the best reason to NOT get involved. There is NO catalytic converter in
the car.

I'll bet that that is the reason the car is being sold: it cannot be
registered in its own state, and in Maine, even though we have no emissions
testing program out side of Metro-Portland, the car MUST have a converter to
get through state inspection.
