[V8] 1991 V8 Transmission problems

I purchased a V8 last fall that would go into limp mode until it warmed up
and was restarted. I pulled the transmission drain plug and got out only
2-3 quarts. I refilled through the dipstick hole using a one gallon
container of AT fluid and no more limp mode. I recall at least one post
saying that low fluid level will not cause limp mode, but I believe it did
in my case. I figured that it was right at the point that the warm fluid
(vs. cold) gave it enough more volume that it was happy then. It's a cheap
and easy thing to try.
