[V8] '91 5-speed Transmission Removal

... we think alike Ed, the steering rack was one other thing I was
considering ... I didn't find it that difficult to pull the core support ...
the thing with the A/C condenser was a bit odd, but it worked. I haven't
done the reinstall with the core in place, but I'll bet having the nose off
the car makes reinstallation easier.

It did remind me of one other thing you'll need to do when pulling the
transaxle ... disconnect the tranny cooler lines, the speedo sender and
wiring to the switches on the tranny.

I was thinking about chiming in similarly. There's some disassembly
involved of the front core support (radiator, headlight panel) but you could
just lift the engine out and not have to mess with all the suspension stuff,
alignment, etc. Basically working from above instead of underneath. Might
be a good time to do the rack, a timing belt job, etc. as well. Don't
forget the clutch! If you've made the choice to go in that far to get the
rear main seal, I'd suggest doing everything you can do that is opened up by
that job, including _how_ you do it, i.e. pull engine or pull transmission.
