[V8] V8 Digest steering rack mounting surface cracked (Ed Kellock)

I too have had this happen.
It is also pretty common on a lot of the C4 Ur S-Cars. There is a pretty  
good write up about it on S-Cars.org.
The mounting flange is a pretty flimsy piece, and with big tires (mine  are 
255s) twisting the rack around I had the same issue.
It started with a the bolts coming loose after which I tightened them and  
threadlocked them twice. Then loose again and a small creak at full lock- and  
progressed to the cracking and steering vagueness. 
I welded in reinforcements in the mounting area and BIG washers to spread  
the stress out. I also through bolted them with Nylock nuts and grade 12.5  
oversize hardware 6 months ago, and still perfect.
I think the issues starts with the mount bolts loose allowing the rack to  
move around and eventually ruin the mount flange. Moral: check the bolts once  
and a while!
