You should have it connected to the car's wiring with the ignition switched 
on. Then, you get a switching signal from 0V to 4.5V on the center wire 
(usually green) while rotating the distributor shaft.

I did check with an ohmmeter today but didn't got any reading, does it
have to be connected to the cars wiring
