[V8] S8?

Ah, well, Kneale, in point of fact, simply put, "NO".
Yes, yes to all the great stuff about the S8 etc, etc, etc.
But the truth is I just don't like the way the new Audis LOOK, and wouldn't
buy one even if there was one available at the same time that I had all the
money in hand to spend on just that.
After I came to terms with the simple fact that the departure of the '93 was
only an interruption to my owning a V8 Quattro, I did a LOT of looking,
prodding and poking in all the various automotive sites and came to some
conclusions about the "next" generation of Audi super cars.
First, I found that the S8 was pretty much out of contention if for no other
reason than the cost of tires alone when it came time to do that, would make
me pretty moody. Tires for the V8 can be considered cheap in comparison to
tires to fit 18" wheels.
Secondly, I considered an S6 Avant, which still remains my true favorite.
Now here is a thought: my wife's 100CS Avant has 135,000+ miles and is
pretty much set for another 45,000 miles with no serious concerns
mechanically. I guess I have an airbag control module to replace and the
cursed backup light switch to replace in December, and I know that the air
conditioner compressor bearings are getting noisy, but the car runs fine and
does for us what we need an Avant to do. BUT, a bit later on, once I
finally retire and we get the new house built, an S6 would be a worthy
replacement for The Green Horney. I just wouldn't tell my wife about the
engine...maybe she'd never notice....ya think?
Thirdly, as far as the S8 is concerned, I just don't like the more bulbous
look of the A8/S8 cars, and the newest Audis...ANY newest Audi...with that
foolish looking scab called a front grille or nose thing, makes me want to
look away. That's just me, of course.
Nope. I really like my '90 V8. It works well, although lately I notice a
little low speed hesitation at cold engine temps and suspect I have an
oxygen sensor going out as I think I read on this list somewhere that that
was a symptom.
And there are occasional Type 44 Tagget V8 Avants that make me curious....
But I'll leave the S8 for those who can ride their cash flow less
conservatively than I, contemplating retirement. And for anyone who likes
the bulbous look of late model Audis.

P.S. Besides, my plan is to build the new house, then build the barn to go
with it. Once the barn is done, I will hunt for another V8 with low mileage
and "bank" it against the time that the current V8 gives up....I haven't
really described that plan to my wife yet, either.
