I'd bet you have a cracked distributor cap. I did the same thing and the new cap (from bosch!)
cracked in about 15k! It is hard to see, but with the black sheild removed and the lights off in
the garage on a dark night you could just see a spark coming out from under one of the plug boots
on the distributor. Clean the old - original - caps and put them back on - it will run like a
champ. I could be wrong, but it is worth a look.
