Dave,
My first question is, where does the third wire com from? I thought an ABS
sensor had 2-wires? So, is the third just an extra ground or something?
I do love the make-it-work mentality, though.
Tony

Subject: [V8] Ingition sensors
As predicted - I had a timing ref sensor go bad - causing the usual hot
start problem. After I got it out, I can see that it does indeed
"open up" when heat is applied. You can watch the
resistance rapidly increase to about 2k - then poof - open.
Actually, both sensors are doing it - meaning that they all fail after
some period of time. I dissected one of mine, and can see that there
was no oil or anything in it - they just go bad from heat cycles.
(btw, there is several thousand turns of 0.002" magnet wire in
there - probably gage AWG 42.5)
Now - here is the crazy part
-
a wheel antilock brake sensor is the same device, and comes very
close to physically fitting. I am going to install it and see if it
works. From my bench testing, these sensors are way more stable
under heat.
I am also going to try to rewind my old sensor if I
can find the wire somewhere.
Wish me luck...
Dave
